ISR VS. SWIM LESSONS
Here is an excellent article that really breaks down the comparisons between the two programs. Since ISR has gained some popularity over the last few years, I thought it would be a good idea to give some info on both types of programs.
I personally believe that swimming, especially from infancy, taps into and enhances key components of early childhood development. As an educator with a background in social work and psychology, I have always felt that swimming checks a lot of boxes in terms of enhancing motor, sensory and communication skills as well as improving balance, strength, coordination, problem solving and most importantly, tactile sensations - especially during the infant stages while bonding with a parent or beloved guardian.
The kidSwim Method was designed around the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines for development for ages 0-3 and addresses all the categories plus adding in safety skills and language that are built into increasingly complicated and challenging water safety drills over time. The key is that they are age appropriate and are meant to enhance independent learning and comprehension as babies do not retain information long term and reinforcement through benevolent repetition is key to real learning. There is nothing more satisfying than a child who suddenly KNOWS they can really swim and declares it to the world!
