Parent/Child Classes – 5-18 months
Our unique program which utilizes The kidSwim Method™ teaches motor/sensory/communication skills that are age and stage appropriate in accordance with the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines. Safety words and basic safety skills are also incorporated as we lay the foundation for what eventually becomes a confident, relaxed and water safe swimmer. Games, songs and toys help to keep your baby engaged as well as building strength, coordination and create problem solving activities that also help to facilitate safety.
30 minute Parent/Child Classes 5-18 months at a kidswim pool
$140 for a six-week session, lessons held once a week.
Parent/Child Drop-in Class at a kidSwim pool
$28 per class, available during off-season months.
Parent/Child Transition Classes – 19-30 months
Continuing on with our kidSwim Method™, this program is designed for children that are transitioning out of the parent/child program and are almost ready to shift to individual lessons. The skills are more advanced as children begin to work for short periods of time with the instructor one-on-one, while the parent or guardian is present. Theses classes are great for children who still want some of the security of mom or dad nearby, but are too advanced for the more basic structure. Many toddlers in this class do begin swimming distances, rolling and floating, jumping and swimming independently and diving down to retrieve toys on the bottom. Safety skills are more advanced and involve several steps and more challenging problem solving.

1:1 Lessons Ages 2 and Up
The foundation of our program since 2001, kidSwim is incredibly proud of our 1:1 lessons for children. We adhere to the 1:1 ratio for both safety and consistency. We want our instructor’s eyes to always be on your child, no divided attention. Additionally, all children deserve to learn at their pace and in a calm setting with minimal distractions. Our instructors develop relationships with each child, getting to know their personalities, likes and dislikes, favorite superheroes and foods, and what ride is their favorite at Disneyland. Utilizing our kidSwim Method™ at this stage is more about motor and communication skills – both fine and gross motor as well as layered commands, problem solving such as encouraging children to think several steps ahead: ‘after you leave the wall, where will you swim to? what will you do when you get there? what should you do if you’re tired before you get there?. These types of conversations and questions are crucial to a child’s development and enhances their ability to rely on themselves when they will actually need to figure out what to do. Additionally, we focus on building strength, coordination and endurance, teaching all four strokes with correct form and a major focus on regulated breathing.

Frequently Asked Questions
We have created The kidSwim Method™ which actually details how we utilize a developmental approach in order to maximize effective and positive learning for each and every child we work with. Aligning with the American Academy of Pediatrics’ guidelines for developmental milestones, we address swim skills in the same format that they do, from a motor/communication/sensory framework. Our developmental swim method approaches teaching kids to love the water at each age and stage, focusing on specific motor/communication/sensory skill development. Our program is designed to enhance and support those skills and that growth. In addition, we add safety words and physical skills that are developmentally appropriate to the age group.
This is the key to real learning — to meet each child at where they are developmentally. Once they’ve gained confidence and acquired specific water skills, we can push them beyond their comfort zone.
An intensive program offered with a concept that after one week or ten days your child will be swimming and/or water safe goes against a developmental practice of learning and can actually be more detrimental than helpful. If a child is a true beginner or non-swimmer, they need time to explore their new environments, become familiar with routine and learn skills in a very specific order so that they can begin to put concepts together and become a more confident and effective swimmer – one that can truly be water safe through experience and knowledge. One or two weeks is simply not enough time for true learning and can give parents and children a sense of over-confidence that isn’t warranted, putting the child in a position that they may not be ready for and can ultimately create potential drowning situations.
What we do recommend is that if your child has been taking lessons for a month or more and is showing definite signs of being on the verge of a major swim breakthrough, adding extra days for a few weeks will in fact help facilitate that transition faster. So it is fine to do 5 days in a row if your child is ready for that and enjoys swimming. If there is some resistance, then I recommend staggering the lessons with a day off in between for better results.
